Notes from our Co-Presidents:

Sewing is a huge part of my life, thanks in part to three women who were my mentors. First was my mom. She taught me to sew when I was 7. She bought fabric for me and let me raid her stash and she was always willing to hem a dress for me. She encouraged me and praised my work. My mom's sewing buddy, my aunt, was a fearless sewer, attacking any project that came her way, including aprons, clothes, teddy bears and car upholstery. She sewed constantly, and while she was not precise, she was generous with her gifts and her knowledge. And then, there was Nova, a friend of my parents. She was a talented lady who sewed beautifully. It was a joy to see the garments she wore and the gifts she gave our family. Each lady guided me in her own way, sometimes intentionally, and sometimes just by example. I treasure the items they made for me, but I am most grateful for their most lasting gift ... the love of sewing.

Hello Ladies. Summer is truly here and all my flowers and trees are in bloom. I can look out from my sewing room window and see the fruits of my efforts. Now that most of the planting and yard cleaning are done, I will be in the sewing room putting together my entry for the New Mexico State Fair. The June meeting was so inspiring and we thank Mary Lou Sullenberger, Renee Hollis, Kristy Fink and Debbie Dickey for their encouraging words making us want to get busy and get some sewing done. I suggest you look through your archived magazines and find more sophisticated seam finishes than serging. In the process you also may pick up some great ideas for your garment. Pick fashions and colors that flatter your figure and by all means think about what great accessories you can use with your ensemble. I am talking about Opening Day at the Fair, of course. If you have never participated in Opening Day, I am here to tell you it is fun to be with your friends and colleagues with whom you may be competing and you also learn so much about sewing. Okay, so get busy planning your entry and I'll see you at the July meeting.

Unfortunately, the Santa Fe Opera Backstage Tour and Mystery Adventure will have to be cancelled. It was scheduled for July 17 and I have had a personal conflict occur that precludes this trip. I will try to reschedule it at a later date.

Our new Librarian is Leslie Sullivan and the new Community Service liaison is Jane Casey.
